About Us
Our founding
The idea of SPOTamericas was born during a by chance run-in between founding member Zoe Sewell and Ulrik Løth Holm, Megan Zina, and Kira Hanßmann of the long established SPOTeurope, while attending the World Federation of Occupational Therapy congress, Paris 2022. There, Zoe was inspired by SPOTeurope’s developmental outreach, crossing cultural and national boarders to forward occupational therapy student connection, development, and education across the European continent.
Moved by SPOTeurope’s dedication and impact to the occupational therapy community abroad, Zoe became dedicated to bringing the same devotion and enthusiasm for international community to the Americas, as did soon to follow co-founder Mike Palou-Morales. SPOTamerica was officially launched February 2023 with their inaugural meeting and continues to provide a platform and mentorship to occupational therapy students to this day.

Our Mentorship Program:
There are two types of memberships offered when creating a profile on SPOTamericas: student and mentor.
-
Mentors are professional OTs who want to give back to the profession, which involves mentoring a collaboratively chosen student (or multiple students) based on practice interest.
-
Students are members of SPOTamericas that post in the discussion, write blogs, and allow their voice to be heard as well as spread opportunities and perspectives to other fellow students with the aim of enhancing the learning of all aspects of the occupational therapy profession.
